During the 11th Polish Chemistry Congress, held on 6-7 June in Warsaw, ORLEN Południe S.A. was awarded the title of “Ambassador of Polish Chemistry”. The title is granted by the Polish Chamber of Chemical Industry as part of the “Polish Chemistry” campaign.
The “Ambassador of Polish Chemistry” distinction is awarded annually to honour companies, individuals, and institutions whose activities contribute to the promotion and development of Polish chemistry and increase the value of the industry through their investments. The winner is officially announced during the Polish Chemistry Congress, and this year was no different. On the second day of the 11th Polish Chemistry Congress, Tomasz Zieliński, BEng, PhD, President of the Board of the Polish Chamber of Chemical Industry, presented the award to Grzegorz Semerjak, Director of Technology & Development at ORLEN Południe.
- We are developing in the area of green trends. For ORLEN Południe, the title of Ambassador of Polish Chemistry is like the green jersey in Tour de France, which is given to the best sprinter in the race. That is exactly what we are as a company – a sprinter in green chemistry. I hope that we will maintain this fast pace – says Grzegorz Semerjak upon receiving the award.
ORLEN Południe is a pioneer and leader in the field of biofuels and biocomponents in Poland. It is also a reputable producer of paraffins and solvents. The company’s offer is complemented by products obtained from crude oil processing and oil regeneration. In recent years, ORLEN Południe has been consistently developing its production plants, transforming them into modern biorefineries.
In 2021, the company launched Poland’s first and Europe’s largest green propylene glycol production plant. Designed under the “ECO” model, the installation contributes to a significant reduction in overall greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions per unit of propylene glycol production compared to conventional technologies, cutting emissions by 60-80%. The company is also developing a new branch devoted to the fuels of the future – hydrogen of the highest purity (5.0) for buses, cars, and other vehicles. In addition, at the Jedlicze plant, it is implementing a programme for the production of advanced fuels, such as second-generation bioethanol.
ORLEN Południe is a partner in projects carried out by the Polish Chamber of Chemical Industry, and representatives of the company are actively involved in the work of the Chamber.
