On 20 February 2020, ORLEN Południe S.A. received the Krakow Technology Park award in the category “The largest investment”.
The statuette was presented to President of the Management Board of ORLEN Południe Marcin Rej by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Higher Education Jarosław Gowin, Minister of Development Jadwiga Emilewicz and President of the Krakow Technology Park Wojciech Przybylski. The ceremony was held during a meeting of companies from the Polish Investment Zone and special economic zone, “Nowa Huta Budzi”, organised by the Krakow Technology Park.
The awarded investment is an installation used for the production of green propylene glycol in ORLEN Południe’s refinery in Trzebinia. Its construction began in 2019, and its completion is planned for 2021. It will be the first installation of this type in Poland, and only the second – and at the same time the largest – installation of this type in Europe.
Propylene glycol, which will be produced in Trzebinia, is an ecological and environmentally friendly product. It is often used in the production of, among others, cleaning products, deodorant sticks, toothpastes, brake fluids or aircraft defrosters.
The production of propylene glycol will enable the use of glycerine made in Trzebinia, which is obtained in the production of biodiesel, primarily from rapeseed oil.
The investment costs will amount to approx. PLN 400 million.
