The glycerine-to-propylene glycol conversion technology developed by ORLEN Południe to convert has been recognised by BASF Polska sp. z o.o. In the “Together for the Planet” programme, our company was awarded the title of Innovator of the Year.
The Innovator title is granted to BASF partners who showcase projects that are aligned with the concept of sustainable development, demonstrating innovation, resource efficiency, and previously unused solutions. The recognised glycerine conversion technology is the first facility of its kind in the world based on this technology.
Poland’s first and Europe’s largest propylene glycol production plant was launched at the Trzebinia refinery in 2021. Its manufacturing is based on glycerine, obtained as a by-product of biodiesel production. Glycol is used on a wide scale, including in medicine, cosmetics and the food industry.
