We are committed to close cooperation with Polish science. To this end, ORLEN Południe signed a letter of intent with the Ignacy Łukasiewicz University of Technology in Rzeszów.
The document outlines the pursuit of exchanging scientific and research information, as well as collaborating on ongoing projects and research. Students will have the opportunity to undertake internships and placements at the company’s production plants. Both parties will mutually support each other’s development activities and achievements. The letter of intent also includes the joint implementation of projects, course and diploma theses, to enhance the qualifications of university graduates. Cooperation will also extend to activities promoting the university’s educational offerings.
Cooperation with thriving research centres such as the Rzeszów University of Technology is particularly important in the context of investment projects carried out by the company in recent years. A new unit is currently under construction at the Jedlicze refinery to produce second-generation bioethanol from non-food raw materials, which will be the first facility of its kind in Poland and the second in Europe, with a capacity of 25,000 tons of bioethanol per year. In 2021, Poland’s first and Europe’s largest green propylene glycol production plant was launched at the Trzebinia refinery. ORLEN Południe has also invested in a pilot plant for the production of lactic acid using microorganisms. In addition, the company is committed to developing hydrogen technology. In June 2022, the first hydrogen hub in Poland, producing automotive grade hydrogen, was launched at the Trzebinia plant. In October 2023, ORLEN Południe launched a new facility at its Trzebinia plant to produce biocomponents from used cooking oils and animal fats under the name UCO FAME.
